Even before the fight it was clear that everything had to come together at RCOG to win. The team from Schattdorf, which had no points to date, surprised with the line-up: Thomas Epp, who is taking part in the U23 World Championships in Albania next week, competed up to 57 kg and met Tinio Ritter from Altstatt. Ritter fought very well against the favored opponent, but had to admit defeat 0:8.
As expected, Schattdorf also prevailed in the next fights. Bruno Flück initially held his own in the heavyweight division, but was outpointed by Simon Marti in the second half. Noah Sprecher, who replaced the injured Mathys Sarrasin, was also unable to score points against Sergio Gamma despite brave resistance up to 61 kg and lost due to technical inferiority.
Greco Ilir Fetahu got the first team point for Rheintal-Werdenberger up to 97 kg. In the exciting duel against Michael Jauch, who was 10 kg heavier, he lost 2:5. After this fight, Jauch ended his wrestling career and hung up his wrestling shoes. Janis Steiger took the first RCOG victory of the evening in the hard-fought Greco fight up to 65 kg. Thanks to two successful spins, he managed to make the difference in the ground fight and ultimately won 7:1 against Sven Gamma. But the deficit at the break was already large at 4:14.
Andreas Vetsch and Maurus Zogg were convincing
Since Robin Zwick (0:7 against Sven Epp) and Flavio Freuler (2:5 against Aaron Zberg) also lost their fights, the match was decided in favor of the Uri team after seven fights. Two strong fights from Andreas Vetsch and Maurus Zogg didn’t change that. Both acted extremely calmly. Vetsch defeated long-time international Nicolas Christen 4-0 and Maurus Zogg scored in the comeback after Benjamin Gander was out due to injury before the halftime bell.
At the end of the evening, as in the first half of the season, there was a duel between Nicolas Steiger and Lars Epp. The two had an attractive freestyle battle, but Epp always held his own in the competitive situations. The fact that Steiger had to be put on his shoulders after four minutes marked the end of a unsuccessful evening for the RCOG. The 11:23 defeat was sealed.
This means that the RCOG is back in last place after seven out of ten rounds and now has to score points against one of the big teams if it wants to avoid the relegation battles. Despite the defeat, the wrestling fans stayed seated for a long time after the fights and celebrated an Oktoberfest party in the Bildstöckli.
