Oberölsbach Sports Club Powerlifters Compete in 2024 Bundesliga Season

The 2024 Bundesliga season began for the powerlifters of the Oberölsbach sports club in Forchheim, Upper Franconia. The neighbors from TSV Katzwang were also guests at AC Bavaria Forchheim. The remaining Bundesliga powerlifting events were held in Erfurt, Lübeck and Essen.

The Upper Palatinate team began this fight with two newcomers and experienced Bundesliga lifters. The strongest woman that day was Miriam Kersel. She is new to the SCO team and started squatting unsteadily. The first attempt over 200 kilograms was ruled invalid three to zero, but the repetition was successful. 210 kilograms from the third round were still too much that day.

115 kilos were a safe bet

In the bench press, 115 kilograms was a safe bench, but five kilograms more would not be valid. Warming up for the deadlift went very mixed. After a few technical changes, she started conservatively with 145 kilograms, which she was able to increase by ten kilograms per attempt. With a strong 480 kilograms and a body weight of just 64 kilograms, she achieved 508 relative points for the team.

The second “newcomer”, Andreas Schmid, was a guest lifter last season. He has officially been wearing the SCO jersey since the 2023 Bavarian Championships and now also in the Bundesliga. As a dress rehearsal for the German championships, he completed two squat attempts over 300 and 310 kilos. The knot finally burst in the bench press. 210, 217.5 and 225 kilograms were taken into account and gave him a best performance of a whopping 25 kilograms. He rounded off the deadlift with three good attempts over 250, 260 and 270 kilograms. With 805 kilograms and a body weight of 95 kilograms, he achieved 506 relative points.

Arnold Greitan was ready

As always, Arnold Greitan was ready for the competition. He is also preparing for the German championships. Three valid attempts opened the squat, 280, 295 and 305 kilograms. In the bench press he had to pass a good 205 kilograms and an invalid 212.5 kilograms – his elbows were on strike. In the deadlift he pulled a safe 260 kilograms, but then needed two attempts to increase it to 270 kilograms. 780 kilograms in total meant 476 relative points with a body weight of 101 kilograms.

Sofia Walter only started playing in the Bayernliga two weeks ago and has now jumped straight back into the breach for the team. Guest lifter Christan Flueras had to miss out with back problems, but was able to provide important support as a supervisor.

In the squat she managed 200 and 210 kilograms and still had room for improvement. In the bench press there was a clean series of 110, 115 and 120 kilograms. In the deadlift she then pulled 150 and 160 kilograms validly to the high distance. With 480 kilograms she landed just behind Arnold Greitan with 473 relative points at 73 kilograms body weight.

With 1491.09 relative points in the team, the powerlifters from Oberölsbach ended up in fourth place and thus right in the middle of the final places. After a total of three preliminary rounds, you have to place in the “top 6” in order to move into the Bundesliga final and thus fight for the German team championship.
