Oberliga: For Gifhorn’s striker Leese, the sporting year 2020 is over

The 3-1 success in the Oberliga derby against Lupo / Martini Wolfsburg on October 25th was important for the footballers of MTV Gifhorn, but with the failure of Goalgetter Malte Leese it also had a bland aftertaste: The 26-year-old injured his foot , falls out longer – due to the renewed Corona break, the striker shouldn’t miss much.

It was actually going well

Actually, things went well for Leese: he came on as a substitute for Lupo in the 65th minute, scored the goal to make it 3-1 just eight minutes later – and had to be replaced five minutes later, after a duel his foot became thick, it went no further. In the 2-0 win at SVG Göttingen on Sunday, the striker was missing accordingly, if the game had continued normally in November, MTV coach Michael Spies would have had to do without the striker for further games.

“I went to the MRT after the game, and the result came two days later – the outer ligaments tore, the inner ligaments torn,” said Leese. Ankle and ankle were also bruised. “The foot still has color,” said the striker with a smile. He still has to walk on crutches, “but I’m satisfied with the healing process,” says Leese. “I can put a little more strain on my foot every day.”

It should take some time before he is fit again. “About six weeks. So it’s good for me that we’re not playing at the moment,” said Leese. “It’s the first real football injury I’ve got.” But not the first failure of the current season: Due to adductor problems, Leese had to sit out for two weeks in October, but then snapped the winning goal as a joker late on his comeback against Arminia Hannover.

Leese is happy with the first half of the season

It is possible that the league will play again in December, provided the current situation allows. But even if the football year should already be over for MTV – Leese is satisfied with the first half of the season: “We are in a very good position. The games at BW Tündern and Eintracht Northeim were annoying.” In Tündern Gifhorn played 2: 2, in Northeim MTV lost 1: 2 – “We played really badly in both games,” said Leese. “It would of course have been good to have these points as well.”
