Oaxacan popular art is unmatched and must be recognized: Ivette Morán

Oaxaca de Juárez, Oax.- Popular art is a magnificent reflection of the diversity and cultural and natural wealth of the entity, preserving the techniques and artisan traditions of the communities of Oaxaca, and encouraging the creativity of people who dedicate themselves to crafts, is a priority for the administration. led by maestro Alejandro Murat Hinojosa.

The Government of the State of Oaxaca through the Oaxacan Institute of Handicrafts (IOA), in coordination with the Federal Secretariat of Culture, through the National Fund for the Promotion of Handicrafts (FONART), carried out the awarding of the XXI State Prize ” Benito Juárez ”2021. In this call, more than 255 artisans and artisans from the eight regions of the state participated, who enrolled in the various artisan branches in which popular art is made.

The honorary president of the System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF) of the State of Oaxaca, Ivette Morán de Murat, emphasized that this state award, in addition to being an incentive that promotes artisanal production, is an important incentive in the face of the difficult situation economic that is currently lived.

“Oaxaca will never cease to amaze us, proof of this are the various arts made by teachers and master craftsmen, who have transmitted their knowledge from generation to generation. Popular art is a deep part of our identity, a voice that speaks the language of tradition ”, he highlighted.

The wife of the State President, indicated that popular art is an engine of social improvement, that teamwork, often in the family, contributes to the economic, social and cultural development of those who carry out this increasingly appreciated activity.

“The artisans should be recognized for their artistic work, since they preserve the legacy of their families and, above all, the cultural heritage of Oaxaca,” he concluded.

In turn, the director of the Oaxacan Institute of Handicrafts, Nadia Clímaco Ortega, congratulated the winning artisans, thanking them for their enthusiasm for participating in this contest, who have promoted artisan work within and outside the state.

“In this Twenty-first edition, we had 58 winning artisans and artisans, with representative pieces from the eight regions of the state, which show the great talent and passion for their work, with this, we recognize the important artisan production of the entity” , he stressed.

In the same way, the director of the IOA, expressed that, since the beginning of the administration of Governor Alejandro Murat Hinojosa, the poverty indicators in the artisan sector were very high, for this reason, various public policies were implemented aimed at promoting, dissemination and construction, an example of this is the Aripo and the Silkworm Sanctuary.

Patricio Santiago, an Oaxacan artisan, said he felt happy, since, for the first time, the category of lapidary art and stonework was opened, a trade with which they have preserved Oaxacan architecture, both colonial and pre-Hispanic, and that thanks to that work they won the distinction from 1987 to date, as a world heritage site.

“Even with the adversity that we live, we feel motivated to see the impulse to our creations in local and national media, in the services, programs and supports that this institute offers us, which increasingly dignifies our artisan work, giving it the value it deserves. . We are proud to be Oaxacans, but even more so, to be the ones who keep alive that identity that our ancestors forged, “he said.

In this event, the Secretary of Economy, Juan Pablo Guzmán Cobián; the general director of the National Fund for the Promotion of Handicrafts (FONART), Emma Yanes Rizo and the general director of the Oaxaca DIF System, Christian Holm Rodríguez.
