OAS and Caricom observers stay longer in Suriname – Suriname Herald

The observer missions of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Caricom, who are in Suriname for the elections, will stay in Suriname longer than planned. Extending their stay is at the request of the government. The observers would leave the country today.

“The government of the Republic of Suriname has asked the international electoral observer missions of the CARICOM and the OAS to extend their stay in Suriname and the OAS has also applied to do so,” writes the NII.

This matter has now been submitted to the Independent Electoral Office (OKB). It is important for the government that the international observers can continue to follow the electoral process and report on the basis of all observations.

The OAS mission consists of ten people, while four of the Caricom are in the country.
