OAKA comes to the fore again with the special project maturation unit (PPF) combing through the last details of the international competition for the design and construction of the Calatrava roofs.
After the deforestation of the polycarbonates, which followed the short-term lockout of the sports facilities at OAKA last year in September, the restoration work is just about to start.
The competition for Calatrava canopies at OAKA
According to information, the PPF managed by the authorized advisor of TAIPED Panagiotis Stampoulidis is ready to announce the international tender of 65 million euros for the study and construction related to the restoration of the static adequacy of the Calatrava roofs at the Olympic Stadium and the cycling track in OAKA.
Sources want the tender to be announced towards the end of October.
The funding comes from Recovery Fund resources.
The tasks
If everything goes within the timetables set by the competition the works after the announcement of the contractor of the project will start in the summer of 2025.
According to first unofficial estimates, OAKA will remain closed in 2026 in order to complete the required work to restore static adequacy.
The works for the entrances, the Wall of Nations and the Agora in OAKA
In addition to the big competition, last summer a corresponding procedure was completed for the necessary works around the perimeter of the Olympic Stadium.
The contractor is Actor of the Intrakat group.
The specific tender of 4.9 million euros concerns the maintenance – repair – replacement of parts of the metal structures of the two entrances, the Agora and the Wall of Nations to the Olympic Complex.
Lack of maintenance
It is worth noting, as it was also revealed after last year’s lockout at OAKA for the static adequacy problems of the Calatrava roofs, the Olympic Complex was poorly maintained after the 2024 Olympic Games, especially with regard to the tall steel structures and arches.
