O2 is launching new fixed internet tariffs today called Max. The name comes from the fact that people always get the maximum possible speed on a given DSL or wireless connection (optical does not apply). In this way, the operator breaks the two-decade-old dogma that tariffs scale according to price and speed. With Max, a single price of CZK 599 applies, and the speed depends only on the state of the line at the given location.
„We want to give customers the maximum of what the O2 network provides in their home without having to deal with the price. More than 2/3 of households that use wireless or DSL technology can already have a speed of at least 100 Mbit/s with O2 today, so why not have the best? That’s why we at O2 have decided to allow customers to enjoy the highest speed for the price of regular internet,” says Martin Čejka, director of landline services at O2.
It’s definitely an innovative approach, but of course it has its drawbacks. It will only bring real savings in the two higher gear stages. They used to be more expensive than CZK 599. But O2 also offered two lower and also cheaper tariffs. For those who have a VDSL line with a maximum speed of 20/2 Mb/s leading to their apartment or house, CZK 599 is an unreasonably high price. Moreover, the modernization of the DSL network has already practically stopped on the part of Cetin, so we cannot expect future acceleration either.

Max includes the basic TV package O2 TV blue with several programs beyond what is normally freely available in DVB-T2 (Filmbox HD, Disney Channel, Spektrum Home, National Geographic HD…).
The newly negotiated Max tariffs will cost only half as much (CZK 299) in the first six months, but will then increase to the standard price of CZK 599. The second bonus is time-limited access to O2 TV Sport, but it ends in March.
Max tariffs are available immediately for new contracts. Users of older tariffs will be transferred to Max in April 2024.
