O. Vācieš: Celebrating the Legacy and Influence of the Latvian Poet

Celebrating this birthday will honor the legacy of O. Vācieš and his influence on the Latvian world. His words continue to inspire, reminding us of the beauty and power of language and the human spirit.

The event will be hosted by actor Gundars Silakaktiņš, who is also the director of the event. “I would like to start with a quote by O. Vācieš, which, in my opinion, is still very relevant today: “I cannot silence my mind and I cannot control my tongue, when the age puts its biography on the board with supersonic speed.” O. Vācietis is one of the closest Latvians to me to poets. In my opinion, the imagery of his poetry is so capacious, the language so suggestive, that one wants to return again and again to the legacy left by the poet. O. Väicetis is an honest and passionate idealist – these aspects of his are particularly valuable to me in these times,” says Gundars Silakaktins.

The choir of the Riga Latvian Society (RLB) will also take part in the event East (conductor Arijs Škepasts), patriotic musician and singer Uldis Kākulis and participants of the Valmiera Theater young actors course.

The 12 young actors, digging out their nearest and dearest from the poetry of O. Vācieš, will create a live poetry sequence. They are Aksels Aizkalns, Ieva Barkāne, Rūdis Bīviņš, Katrīna Griga, Artis Jančevskis, Milena Mishkeviča, Agnese Laicāne, Meynards Liepiņš, Sandis Runge, Diāna Krista Stafecka, Krišjānis Strod and Kārlis Zahovskis.

Over the years, O. Vācietis has become a beloved poet not only in the literary world, but also in people’s hearts. His words have touched countless lives, offering comfort, inspiration and hope in times of difficulty and uncertainty. O. Vācieš’s poetry is also characterized by bright and unconventional imagery, emphasis on the inner life of the individual and readiness to challenge the ruling ideology. His poems very often deal with the human experience, including themes of love, loss and mortality.

“Do to me what you will, but do!” he would say.

Tickets for the event are available at Biļešu paradīze box offices and online www.bilesuparadize.lv.
