In the end, Pinto da Costa spent a few minutes answering the journalists, even though he didn’t want to talk about football. “I have great friends who are Benfica supporters”, he said, when asked to comment on the fact that he was repeatedly praised, as was the case by Luís Osório, by supporters of other clubs.
“I have great friends who support Benfica, in the most varied sectors. Look, in music, the greatest guitarist in the world, Mário Pacheco, is a staunch supporter of Benfica and a great friend. He came by surprise to play at my birthday party and just yesterday I sent good wishes,” he added.
“I don’t confuse friendships with clubs. There are people from FC Porto that I can’t like and I like people from other clubs. I remember, even if everyone knows, the former president of Benfica, Fernando Martins. whom I miss. Whenever I enter the Hotel Altis, in Lisbon, I remember that he was always there to receive us, he appeared at meals. Friendship is not about clubs, it has to do with empathy”, he concluded.
