The largest insurers in the country are Achmea, CZ, Menzis and VGZ. After an extensive investigation, the authority sees areas for improvement for all four. They must better identify the ‘bottlenecks in the supply’ of care and take action based on this.
According to the NZa, two of the insurers are failing to such an extent that a formal measure has been imposed on them. The authority has not yet announced what exactly this measure entails and to which insurers it applies. According to de Volkskrant this concerns CZ and Menzis.
The insurers will now first be given six months to implement improvements. Only if they do not do this sufficiently can the measure be published.
“Access to care can no longer be taken for granted. This is a complicated problem for which all parties in the healthcare system are responsible,” the NZa further explains. It expects health insurers to ‘keep a close eye on the healthcare demand and supply in the region and manage accordingly’. Because insured persons must receive ‘timely, accessible and appropriate care’.
