The zinc manufacturing company had already had to reduce its activity last December due to an increase in electricity prices.
The Nyrstar refinery in Auby is shut down today for three weeks.
The refinery has the distinction of being the only one to manufacture zinc in France. But faced with rising electricity prices in recent months, the company had initially decided to reduce its activity last December. But the pace was ultimately not sustainable for employees and Nyrstar will temporarily close.
Employees kept in business
During this shutdown, Nyrstar employees will continue to operate. They will follow training courses or carry out maintenance and upkeep work on the site.
Management hopes for a stable recovery in activity in the spring.
