NEW YORK – Several young men were shot Sunday night at a house party in Brooklyn, claiming the life of a 20-year-old woman.
NYPD says shots were fired around 11 p.m. at an apartment building on Albany Avenue in Bed Stuy. The victims, ages 14 to 20, were gathering at the party when an unknown person entered the scene and began shooting in the lobby as he climbed the stairs, according to police.
After the shooting, police say someone transported the 20-year-old victim to hospital and where she was pronounced dead.
Other victims include an 18-year-old who was shot in the leg, a 19-year-old man who was shot in the torso, an 18-year-old man who was shot in the leg, a 14-year-old teenager, a girl who was shot in the buttocks, a 16-year-old who was shot in the torso, and a 15-year-old who was shot in the leg. All are expected to survive, police said.
The gun violence followed another shooting near a Sweet 16 party in the East New York sector, where a 17-year-old was shot. Investigators say they believe the victim was at that party on Liberty Avenue before 911 was called to disperse the crowd. Others who attended the party on Albany Avenue may also have been at the quinceañera (Sweet 16) party, police said.
What triggered the shooting is not yet clear, but police said there was more than one shooter and no fewer than two weapons were used.
No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.
