NYPD officer shot in the head while trying to buy a car dies

Adeed Fayaz, the police officer who was shot in the head while trying to buy a car he had seen on Facebook Marteplace, died today, February 7, at 3:25 pm, an NYPD spokesman announced.

Officer Adeed Fayaz, 26, was a five-year veteran of the NYPD, who had been fighting for his life at Brookdale Hospital, since Saturday night. He was the father of two children.

Just hours before his death, New York Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell announced the arrest of Randy Jones, 38, who has an extensive criminal record.

Suspect arrested with officer’s handcuffs

At a press conference, the NYPD chief of detectives reported that officer Adeed Fayaz’s handcuffs were used when arresting Jones: “We wanted him to know what he did to that officer and that he had the handcuffs on,” he said. . “I think it sends a powerful message.”

Fayaz was taken off life support earlier today and will be transferred to the morgue tonight.

Police say Jones was arrested at a Rockland County Days Inn Monday night, where he had fled with his girlfriend and five children children after the shooting on Saturday night.

The policeman thought he was buying a car

On Saturday, police sources confirmed to Univision 41 that today, Saturday, February 4, around 7 pm, one of the NYPD agents was wounded in the head with a firearm. The incident happened on Ruby St., between Linden Blvd. and Dumont Ave., in an area of ​​eastern New York known as The Hole.

The off-duty officer was trying to buy a car he had seen on Facebook Marketplace when the alleged seller told him it was a robbery, and the two drew their firearms, taking the shot to the head that followed. it cost him his life.

When emergency services arrived, he was immediately transferred to Brookdale University Hospital, where it was declared that he is in critical condition due to the seriousness of his injury.
