NYPD Officer in Stable Condition After Shot in Staten Island – NBC New York

NEW YORK — A New York City police officer was shot on Staten Island early Thursday, three senior police officials said, but the officer is in stable condition and is expected to survive.

Preliminary reports indicate the officer was shot through a door while executing a search warrant in the New Springville section. Cops returned fire and the suspect may have also been shot.

It was the second time in less than 36 hours that an NYPD officer has been shot in the line of duty, following an incident in the Bronx on Tuesday night.

That officer, who was shot in the leg while fighting with a teenage suspect, has since been released from the hospital.

According to NYPD data, citywide shooting incidents are up 16% this year compared to the same period last year.

This is a developing story.
