NYPD officer breaks leg in Fall – NBC New York (47)

NEW YORK – An NYPD officer is recovering after sustaining a horrific injury while training at the Queens Police Academy, police said.

The emergency services unit was conducting the drill shortly after noon on Thursday, during which the officer was pushed back from a helicopter approximately 20 feet up.

As he begins to descend, he and the repulsive line fall hard, crashing to the ground.

His fellow officers rushed to his side. Police said he was airlifted to Jacobi Hospital conscious and alert after suffering a compound fracture in his leg. He is expected to survive.
