In the early hours of Friday, a Jewish individual was attacked in order to steal his religious articles while on his way to a synagogue in Flatbush.
Surveillance video shows a group of Orthodox Jewish civil patrols and two hooded and masked suspects approaching the victim, beating him, forcibly removing a black bag with religious items and fleeing.
The attack left the sidewalk stained with blood.
The NYPD is investigating the attack as a crime of racial intolerance.
Governor Cuomo also made a statement condemning the incident and directing the New York State Police Hate Crimes Task Force to investigate the incident.
According to police data for this month, anti-Semitic attacks have risen 69% so far this year, with 113 incidents in the first half of 2021, compared to 67 in the same period in 2020.
