Warberg IC was about to get a decisive match at home.
Then Nykvarn scored four goals in seven minutes and took a historic step up to the men’s SSL.
– It is hardly the case that you believe yourself that it should be possible, says the hero Sebastian Thorberg.
Nykvarn has made a big investment to get to SSL by bringing in superstars from the highest league.
That investment has paid off.
It looked bleak at home in the fourth qualifying match against Warberg IC, but a superb turnaround secured promotion and a 3–1 leg win.
Decided in extra time
Warberg led 4–0 with seven minutes left in the match, but in front of a boiling home arena, the pick-up began and Karl-Johan scored the equalizer Ahlroth leads with 20 seconds left.
The decision then came almost immediately in extra time when Sebastian Thorberg scored 5-4 and celebrated by jumping into the crowd who embraced the players in a huge jubilant heap.
– So it’s a magical year. The entire last ten minutes are aimed at the goal. It is hardly the case that you believe yourself that it will be possible to turn this around, then you see that it is sailing in… The brain is running at high speed, there is no time to think, says a Euro risk Sebastian Thorberg in Sportbladet’s broadcast after the match.
– You have to believe in it from the start. When we do 2-4, you feel it’s real. There are three minutes left, it’s floorball and two goals are nothing when you get them swinging.
Warberg remains in the Allsvenskan
The former big club Warberg IC left SSL for the first time ever in 2017 and has yo-yoed between SSL and Allsvenskan since then.
The team can now focus on continued play in the second highest league.
– It’s a huge disappointment and damn sad that two years of hard work just slips out of one’s hands. It’s heavy right now, says team captain Jesper Larsson.
Since before, Karlstad IBF is also ready for SSL.
