NYC will not suspend the mask mandate for public schools

Schools Chancellor David Banks says the city is not yet ready to lift the mask mandate in schools. In any case, the measure could only change if the state government determines so.

Banks brought it up during a meeting with members of a committee made up of parents who serve on school boards in different neighborhoods.

The Minister of Education indicated that the COVID-19 situation is improving and that the figures are falling, but that the city still needs to improve some indicators.

In the meantime, Mayor Adams has said he will not risk rescinding face coverings in schools too soon, but will speak with his health experts to determine the appropriate next steps.
