NYC will continue to sell alcoholic beverages ‘to go’

Alcoholic beverages ‘to go’ return to city businesses, as part of the new state budget.

State authorities say that wine and alcoholic beverages must be ordered together with what they call a “substantial meal.”

The concept of “substantial foods” has to do with the size of the portion and includes entrees, side dishes and appetizers.

Other foods that fall into this category include sandwiches, nachos, salads, chicken wings, or hot dogs because they can exist as a proper meal.

On the other hand, a bag of chips, candies, or canned beans are not considered substantial because they are the size of a snack.

Beer and cider are not subject to these standards.
