NYC Weather Forecast: Rainâ Clouds Gather Over New Year’s Eve Celebrations
As the holiday âcheer âfadesâ and the countdown toâ 2025 begins,New Yorkers who enjoyed âŁa âwhite âChristmas are bracing for a change in weather. Instead of snow, rain âis expected to dampen the â¤final days of the â˘year, according to the â˘National Weather Service.
Meteorologist âDave Radell of the National Weather Service shared insights into the upcoming weather pattern. “we âŁget a little bit of a period of a warm-up⤠starting on Saturday, Sunday and into Monday,” Radell said. “Each of those daysâ will get a little bit warmer.â In fact, âŁSaturday weâre looking â˘at upper 40s and then by Sunday and Monday, mid to upper 50s for Staten Island, âŁthe city and northeast⢠Jersey.”
Thisâ shift in weatherâ will begin late Friday night, bringing an “unsettled period”⤠into Saturday,⤠according to Radell. While Saturday’s â˘rainfall is predicted to be minimalâaround âŁa tenth of an inchâ â¤lingering âclouds and showers are âŁanticipated throughout the day. â A second wave of rain âis expected to hitâ the city⣠Sunday afternoon and⤠evening, potentially lasting into âearly⣠Monday morning.
Whileâ notâ a âcomplete “washout,” the cumulative rainfall from both periods could reach between half an inch and nearly an âinchâ by monday morning.this means New â¤Year’s Eve revelers should be prepared for potentially wet⤠conditions as they celebrate the arrival âof 2025.
The warmer temperatures, â¤however, offer a small consolation to those accustomed to the âŁrecent⣠frigid â¤conditions. The predicted highs⢠in the mid-to-upper â˘50s offer a welcome respite from the recentâ cold âsnap, although the rain may necessitate adjustments to outdoor âNew Year’s Eve plans.
Residents are â˘advised to monitor weather updates closely as the forecast approaches. âThe National Weather Service website (www.weather.gov) provides the latest âdata and⣠detailed predictions for the New York City area.
