NYC Weekend Washout: Rain Forecast to Continue

NYC Weather Forecast: Rain‍ Clouds Gather Over New Year’s Eve Celebrations

As the holiday ‌cheer ‍fades‍ and the countdown to 2025 begins,New Yorkers who enjoyed ⁣a ‌white Christmas are bracing for a change in weather. Instead of snow, rain is expected to dampen the ⁤final days of the ⁢year, according to the ⁢National Weather Service.

Meteorologist ‍Dave Radell of the National Weather Service shared insights into the upcoming weather pattern. “we ⁣get a little bit of a period of a warm-up⁤ starting on Saturday, Sunday and into Monday,” Radell said. “Each of those days‌ will get a little bit warmer.‌ In fact, ⁣Saturday we’re looking ⁢at upper 40s and then by Sunday and Monday, mid to upper 50s for Staten Island, ⁣the city and northeast⁢ Jersey.”

This‌ shift in weather‍ will begin late Friday night, bringing an “unsettled period”⁤ into Saturday,⁤ according to Radell. While Saturday’s ⁢rainfall is predicted to be minimal—around ⁣a tenth of an inch— ⁤lingering ‍clouds and showers are ⁣anticipated throughout the day. ‍ A second wave of rain is expected to hit‍ the city⁣ Sunday afternoon and⁤ evening, potentially lasting into ‍early⁣ Monday morning.

While‌ not‌ a ‌complete “washout,” the cumulative rainfall from both periods could reach between half an inch and nearly an ‍inch‍ by monday morning.this means New ⁤Year’s Eve revelers should be prepared for potentially wet⁤ conditions as they celebrate the arrival of 2025.

The warmer temperatures, ⁤however, offer a small consolation to those accustomed to the ⁣recent⁣ frigid ⁤conditions. The predicted highs⁢ in the mid-to-upper ⁢50s offer a welcome respite from the recent‌ cold snap, although the rain may necessitate adjustments to outdoor ‌New Year’s Eve plans.

Residents are ⁢advised to monitor weather updates closely as the forecast approaches. ‌The National Weather Service website (www.weather.gov) provides the latest ‌data and⁣ detailed predictions for the New York City area.
