New York City lost 13% of its restaurants to the pandemic, according to a revealing report from the state Department of Labor.
According to the figures estimated by this agency, the number of employees in the industry decreased from 170,000 -in January 2020- to 102,000 by October 2021.
Overall, restaurants offering food service and alcoholics dropped from 308,100 in January 2020 to 226,000 in October this year.
During that same period, the number of people employed in this industry decreased by 68,000.
Additionally, other businesses related to the food and beverage industry fell from 269,000 to 189,000.
