NEW YORK – The famous New York City Half Marathon was canceled a second time due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

This was announced on Wednesday by the organization in charge of the races in the city, New York Road Runners, (NYRR), on their website.

“The United Airlines NYC Half 2021 is canceled due to health and safety concerns related to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The race, which takes place annually in March, is one of the largest half marathons in the world. The decision was made in consultation with the New York City Mayor’s office and was announced today by New York Road Runners (NYRR), the event organizers, ”the page says.

The race was scheduled for March 14, 2021, and is canceled amid growth in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in New York.

Around 25,000 runners can become part of the race on the streets of Brooklyn and Manhattan during this event.

Those runners who were registered for the race have the option of receiving a refund of the 2020 entry fee. Likewise, runners affected by the decision will be contacted directly.

Runners from around the world will be able to participate in a Virtual Half Marathon and details will be announced, the website says.
