NYC gets ready for a world with more freedom

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio stressed that the key to getting the city back to normal is vaccination.

All those who are fully vaccinated will have more freedom; if not, they will continue with certain restrictions.

New Yorkers, whether vaccinated or not, should keep their masks in the following places:

  • public schools
  • public transportation, such as subways and trains
  • health clinics, hospitals or doctor’s offices
  • places of congregation, such as nursing homes
  • in all municipal government offices.

The Municipality offered advice for all the inhabitants: if you already have all the vaccines and you are inside a place where it is not possible to know if everyone is already vaccinated, leave the mask on.

Regarding the recovery of the city, de Blasio announced that the development, integration and family growth centers will receive more resources to be able to offer their services to working families in 33 neighborhoods, which were seriously impacted during the pandemic.

He stressed that the indicators of the pandemic in the city have reached their lowest figure since October 2020.

Regarding the new indicators used to measure progress in the fight against coronavirus, the most recent data showed:

  • Number of positive cases admitted to hospitals: 96 (24%)
  • Number of hospitalizations per 100,000 population, 7-day median (NYS): 0.96
  • COVID-19 reported cases, 7-day average: 537
  • Percentage of patients who tested positive, 7-day average: 1.44%
