NEW YORK.- The state of New York, where about a million Dominicans reside, is the third among the 50 existing in the United States with the most deaths from Covid-19 and the fourth in contagion, according to the latest data presented by “The City”, non-profit medium and that keeps the statistics since the beginning of the pandemic.
In the United States, with a total population of 331,449,281, so far 622,233 people have died, 36,846,967 have been infected with the virus and 30,230,452 recovered.
Currently 198,595,349 have been vaccinated and 503,998,972 have been tested.
The state with the highest number of victims is California with 39,512,223 inhabitants, where 64,692 have died and 4,148,555 infected; followed by Texas with 28,995,881 inhabitants, 54,568 deaths and 3,353,575 infected; then NY with 19,453,561 inhabitants, 54,463 deceased and 2,276,084 infected; and Florida with 21,477,737 inhabitants, 41,123 deaths and 981,094 infected.
Of that amount in the state of NY, in New York City there are 33,661 deceased and 989,451 infected. Thousands of quisqueyanos are among the dead and tens of thousands infected.
Brooklyn County has been the most affected with 10,560 deaths and 292,211 infected; followed by Queens with 10,042 and 284,764; then The Bronx with 6,614 and 184,196; following Manhattan with 4,556 and 148,923; ending with Staten Island with 1,865 and 79357.
There are 24 bodies that are not attributed to any county.
The Big Apple became, as of this Monday, the first city in the USA to implement the new vaccination guideline against Covid-19 to be able to enter restaurants, gymnasiums, cinema and theaters, among other closed places.
As of next September 13, it will be mandatory to present proof of vaccination. Children under the age of 12 are excluded from the measure. Businesses that do not comply with the provision will be fined.
The measure comes as Covid cases continue to increase and the Delta variant represents 90% of all positive samples. This city is now a place of “high transmission”, according to the authorities, and the total rate of new cases per 100,000 people during the last seven days has increased by almost 16%
