Residents of the city of NY summer double the cost of your electricity and gas bill due to a rate increase approved last Thursday. Con Edisonthe agency responsible for these services in the Big Apple, will increase citywide rates by 9% as part of a rate plan approved by the Public Utilities Commission.
According to a plan commission analysis published by the New York Post, an average Big Apple resident who uses 600 kilowatt hours of electricity per month will see an increase of about $14.44, or 9.1%on your bill from August.
Then, monthly bills will increase another $7.20, or 4.2%, in January of next year, and about $2.43, or 1.4%, in January 2025.
According to the PSC’s analysis, a typical customer of Con Edison who uses an average of 100 therms per month will see an increase of $17.28, or 8.4%, in his bill starting next month. Then, it will increase an average of $14.90, or 6.7%, in January of the following year, and $15.61, or 6.6%, in the following year.
In short, these rate increases mean that a current monthly electric and gas bill of $70 will double to just over $140 by 2025.
