NY Police to Hold 8 Car Auctions in May: What You Need to Know

From May 4 to May 12, the New York Police will hold 8 car auctions in different counties of the City.

Every month, the Police department holds these auctions to sell seized cars that have not been claimed in a certain amount of time.

The auctions begin tomorrow in the Bronx where 48 vehicles of different makes and models ranging from 1998 to 2021 will be offered.

Those interested must be over 18 years of age and will have to pay the vehicle in cash at the time.

The authorities point out that the vehicles do not have a guarantee once they are purchased.

These are the dates and places where the car auctions will take place:

You do not pay the fines of the auctioned cars

On the City’s website it is reported that, in vehicle auctions, the owner of the vehicle must pay all the fines that are in court and fines and interest to redeem the vehicle.

Towed vehicles are sold at auction if not redeemed after ten business days from the date.

The proceeds of the auction, after expenses, are used to pay off the judgment debt. Expenses may include running fees ($80), poundage, storage, grouting, towing, advertising costs, auctioneer, and plate removal.

Before you offer to buy one of the cars in the auction, keep in mind that bidders should be prepared to pay for any vehicle they buy as soon as they place the winning (highest) bid.

Payments must be made in cash. Anyone not willing to pay immediately should not bid.

Also, some cars may have a lien on them. Buyers purchase the right, title and interest in a vehicle, subject to any and all recorded liens.

A vehicle subject to a lien remains subject to the lien after the sale. Any vehicle with a lien may be subject to repossession by the lien holder.

The Sheriff is not responsible for notifying bidders of liens on vehicles.

All vehicles are sold “as is” and must be picked up by the buyer where they are located.

Potential buyers are encouraged to do their own research on the history of the vehicles they wish to bid on. Vehicle safety recall information can be investigated at the following link.
