NEW YORK – New York will allocate $ 15 million from the state budget to promote vaccination in communities hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Monday.
The funds will be used to strengthen communication, expand public education, and enhance ongoing outreach efforts in various communities.

“COVID-19 exposed long-standing inequalities in our society, and we have seen evidence of that in both the positivity rate and the vaccination rate in the communities that were most affected by the virus,” Governor Cuomo said. “New York is doing everything it can to get vaccines, and this budget funding will help us target outreach efforts in the state’s most vulnerable communities to make sure everyone can get vaccinated. We have made incredible progress in fighting COVID- 19, but there is more work to be done, and this will help us protect communities across the state. “
Funding will be allocated to the following organizations. Some groups will use the funds to outsource to organizations that serve designated communities:
• Hispanic Federation: $ 5.5 million for COVID-19 vaccine education and awareness, case management, and the establishment of community vaccination and education sites. This will include, among many points, extensive marketing efforts and leveraging a network of more than 65 trusted Latino community organizations across the state. The organization will leverage its staff and community nonprofits to deploy a network of bilingual / bicultural case managers and social workers to provide a pre-assessment and answer questions, among other efforts.
• Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies: $ 5.5 million for grassroots community and direct outreach and public education statewide on COVID-19 vaccination. FPWA will conduct train-the-trainer meetings across the state and award grants to 40-60 New York City community organizations, places of worship, social organizations, and human service agencies in areas most in need of support. the COVID-19 vaccine. The organization will also conduct a direct outreach to black communities.
• New York Immigration Coalition: $ 1 million to provide accurate, technical, and personalized information on COVID-19 and vaccines directly to communities through member organizations. NYIC will develop community-facing resources that address the latest scoring standards, public health information, and vaccine access points. The organization will also coordinate local resources. It will also host regional community education events across the state and webinars on COVID-19 specific content.
• Asian American Federation, Charles B. Wang Community Center, APICHA Community Health Center: $ 1 million each to partner with civic and community organizations serving Asians in New York State to reach the most difficult-to-reach members of the community, including homebound seniors, undocumented immigrants, families with limited English proficiency.
This funding is part of New York State’s ongoing efforts to promote the COVID-19 vaccine, with a particular focus on communities with low vaccination rates and communities hardest hit by the virus.
