Nvidia’s graphics processing unit (GPU) technology is proving useful in the semiconductor and chip manufacturing industries. TSMC, ASML and Synopsys are all using Nvidia’s accelerators to improve computational lithography, while KLA Group, Applied Materials and Hitachi use deep learning on parallel-processing silicon for e-beam and optical wafer inspection. Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, expects GPU acceleration to increase the speed of lithography by up to 50 times, reducing power and cost. The potential application of artificial intelligence in Nvidia’s cuLitho software stack could breathe new life into Moore’s Law and the company’s investment in robotic development could create further business opportunities.
