Last December, there was already a rumor that the graphics processors that are the basis of the GeForce GTX 16 series, which are based on the Turing architecture, may soon say goodbye to the market, as Nvidia plans to stop production in the first quarter of 2024. . According to the news, this has already taken place, so now members of the GeForce GTX 16 series can only be produced as long as the stockpiles of the manufactured graphics processors last, because AIB partners can no longer expect new deliveries.
According to information from Board Channels, the remaining stocks are enough for another 1-3 months, i.e. it may take that long before the AIB partners use the last finished GPUs, and after that the market can only rely on the stocks accumulated from the finished video cards. There is no news on exactly how many of these products are available, but it is almost certain that individual GeForce GTX 16 series models will not disappear from store shelves in the coming weeks, but only months later, gradually.

The backbone of Nvidia’s modern GeForce range has long been replaced by the GeForce RTX series models, which debuted with the GeForce RTX 20 series in 2018 and offered two important innovations in addition to the new architecture. One is practically the eponymous RTX technology, which allows for real-time ray tracing; while the other is Tensor technology, which represents target hardware that helps speed up AI-based tasks. The latter was actually necessary because of DLSS, i.e. upscaling technology.
At the time, it was thought that there was a need for a GeForce GTX series on the market, which uses graphics processors based on the Turing architecture in the same way as the GeForce RTX 20 series, but active Tensor and RT cores are not on board the GPU, so their potential cannot be exploited. Users could still enjoy the advantages inherent in the Turing architecture, moreover, in a more cost-effective design, so the series really had a right to exist.
Individual members of the GeForce GTX 16 series were so loved by those looking for a cost-effective gamer video card that the GeForce GTX 1650 led the leaderboard for a long time in Steam’s monthly hardware summary, but since then the GeForce RTX 3060 has taken the lead. The GeForce RTX 1660 Super and GeForce RTX 1660 Ti were also popular, but time is slowly running out on them, since they are already two generations behind the current developments, their performance is becoming less and less sufficient, so they can slowly retire.
