NVIDIA’s RTX 50 Series: A Quantum Leap in Gaming Graphics
On the same day NVIDIA briefly claimed the title of world’s most valuable company, CEO Jensen Huang unveiled the highly anticipated Blackwell family of graphics cards at CES 2025. The RTX 50 series promises a significant leap in performance, boasting impressive specs adn groundbreaking technology.
The launch lineup includes the RTX 5070, RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5080, and the flagship RTX 5090, with prices ranging from $549 to a hefty $1,999. Laptop versions are slated for a March release, starting at $1,299.
“Depending on the game, the 5090 will deliver as much as twice the relative performance,” Huang stated, highlighting significant gains in ray-tracing intensive titles like alan Wake 2 and Cyberpunk 2077.A demonstration video showcased Cyberpunk 2077 running at an astounding 242 frames per second on the RTX 5090, compared to 109 fps on the RTX 4090.
The performance boost is largely attributed to NVIDIA’s new DLSS 4 technology. “The tech can generate up to three additional frames for every one frame the GPU renders with traditional rendering techniques,” explained Huang. While older RTX cards will support DLSS 4, the multi-frame generation feature remains exclusive to the RTX 50 series.
Even the entry-level RTX 5070, featuring 6,144 CUDA cores and 12GB of GDDR7 memory, promises performance comparable to the RTX 4090, thanks to DLSS 4. NVIDIA claims the RTX 5070 Ti offers up to double the speed of its predecessor, the RTX 4070 Ti.
As was to be expected, the RTX 50 series demands significant power. NVIDIA recommends a 1000-watt PSU for the RTX 5090,which boasts 575 watts of total graphics power. However, all founders Edition cards feature a more compact two-slot design.
GPU | Architecture | CUDA Cores | Memory | Recommended PSU (Watts) |
---|---|---|---|---|
