Nvidia Launches New Graphics Cards: RTX 3050, RTX 3050 6G, and More!

January has been a month full of launches from Nvidia’s side, where the company has rolled out no less than three new graphics cards in the form of Geforce RTX 4070 Super, Geforce RTX 4070 Ti Super and Geforce RTX 4080 Super. In the entry-level segment, however, the company sticks to the older Ampere architecture, where the smallest Geforce RTX 3050 today gets a cheaper sibling with a reduced amount of graphics memory.

Despite the product name, it is more than just the amount of memory that has changed to the new 6 GB version of the Geforce RTX 3050. The company has also gone ahead and cut out calculation units in the graphics circuit, where these are reduced by as much as 20 percent. Furthermore, the clock frequencies have been pushed down significantly, which reduces the computing power by almost 34 percent compared to the 8 GB version. Finally, the memory bus has been reduced to 96 bits, giving a memory bandwidth of a low 168 GB/s.

Gigabyte makes a low-profile variant of the RTX 3050 6GB.

The company also releases a factory overclocked Eagle card with a cooler cooler.

However, there is a positive aspect to the scaled-down specifications, and that is the card’s power budget (TBP) of 70 W. Namely, the model stays within the limits of being powered only via the PCI Express port on the motherboard – something that is demonstrated on two newly released cards from Gigabyte , which lack extra power contacts. The low power output also opens up passive solutions, like the one shown by Palit earlier at the end of last year.

In terms of pricing, the new card carries a suggested entry price of $179. In reality, however, the price looks to land a bit higher, as the range presented from Swedish dealers is the same Inet and Pro shop seems to be in the region of 2,700 to 2,800 kroner including VAT for Gigabyte’s Eagle card.
