Nvidia is trying to push people to buy the RTX 4080

Chinese sources recently reported on the limited supply of Ada Lovelace graphics cards and the information is now brought by the well-known leaker Tom from the YouTube channel Moore’s Law Is Dead, perhaps showing specific steps the green team will take. Or it could be a completely different measure, who knows. Anyway, Tom’s sources are convinced that Nvidia will deliberately reduce the availability of the RTX 4090 model.

This measure would aim to push users to buy the cheaper, but far less popular RTX 4080 graphics (by the way, the unpopularity is completely justified, but more on that in a moment). As we reported back in November, or just after the release of this model, despite the significantly lower number of available models compared to the flagship RTX 4090 card, still failed to sell out of stock.

Tom’s first source, apparently from a team at some Nvidia card manufacturer partner, said:

“We have been told outright that we will not receive additional RTX 4090 shipments until the existing RTX 4080 inventory is sold out. Nvidia is confident that people prefer to give up and simply buy an RTX 4080 instead [když jim nic jiného nezbyde, pozn. redakce].“

Another source noted that supplies of the RTX 4090 were limited just a week after launch. It also states that RTX 6000 graphics cards, intended for workstations and sent to the market with a price tag in the order of several thousand dollars, are on the contrary being distributed in abundance to distributors.

RTX 4080 simply offers significantly worse price: performance ratio than its more expensive sister, but at the same time lags behind the cheaper RTX 4070 Ti in this regard. For many really demanding users, there is practically no reason why they should choose the RTX 4080 and not pay for a significantly faster model. It is for this reason that several times began to argue about reducing its price, but at the moment it seems that Nvidia has come up with a different solution. At least temporarily.
