Nvidia is quietly adjusting hdr requirement for G-Sync Ultimate – Computer – News

Nvidia appears to have lowered the requirements for monitors to be eligible for a G-Sync Ultimate certificate, without giving any publicity. A maximum screen brightness of 1000cd / m² is no longer required.

Where Nvidia still spoke of ‘Best HDR 1000 nits’ in its communication at the announcement of G-Sync Ultimate in 2019, that text has been adjusted to ‘Lifelike HDR’ at the current site of that label, PC Monitors noted. Not only that, at CES 2021, manufacturers also announced some monitors that had received the G-Sync Ultimate certificate, but had a lower maximum screen brightness.

Nvidia informed itself a number of like the MSI MEG MEG381CQR and LG 34GP950G, both of which have a maximum screen brightness of 600cd / m². On the list of monitors with G-Sync Ultimatecertificate lists more models with lower brightness, such as the Dell Alienware AW2721D, also a DisplayHDR 600 monitor.

G-Sync Ultimate is the name that Nvidia introduced for high-end monitors with its hardware G-Sync module and hdr support. Displays without that module, but with support for Adaptive Sync of the VESA, are considered by the company as ‘G-Sync Compatible’. Monitors that have a G-Sync module but less high-end specifications than the Ultimate models can simply carry a G-Sync designation from Nvidia.
