NVIDIA is close to buying ARM for $ 40 billion

According to publications The Wall Street Journal and Financial TimesNVIDIA is now one step away from buying ARM. According to sources, the deal will be announced on Monday.

Now the fabless developer from Britain is owned by the Japanese investment company Softbank, which will gain more than $ 40 billion from the sale. Recall that the companies discussed the possibility of a deal back in July:

At the same time, four years ago ARM was acquired for $ 32 billion. It is curious that at that time ARM and NVIDIA were valued approximately the same, but at the moment the capitalization of the latter is about $ 330 billion.

In addition, as a result of the deal, Softbank will receive shares of NVIDIA, moreover, in such an amount that the Japanese company will become its largest shareholder. Thus, in the sale of ARM, Softbank will bear part of the risks inherent in the deal, as it will have its share in NVIDIA.

Such an acquisition will require regulatory approval, and the purchaser will likely be required to continue licensing ARM architectures to existing customers. It is reported that NVIDIA will get all the assets of the British developer without exception. ARM technologies will allow gaining influence in those market segments where NVIDIA still has a very weak position, primarily in mobile devices.
