Nvidia has reduced the performance of paying GeForce Now users

Nvidia presented the GeForce Now streaming service at CES 2018 as a way in which even users of sets without a powerful card can reach 60-120 FPS in demanding games. Game content is rendered on Nvidia’s servers and the image is streamed to the user’s PC.

However, nothing lasts forever and ≥60 FPS in 1080p in GeForce Now is no exception. In October, Nvidia decided to introduce a more expensive “tariff”, so in addition to the traditional rate – now called “Priority” with up to 1080p at 60 FPS for € 49.99 for half a year (€ 8.33 per month), the rate “RTX” 3080 ”with up to 1440p at 144 FPS and up to 4k HDR for Shield TV (for € 99.99).

There would be nothing wrong with it if users did not start complaining that the standard “Priority” tariff in some games does not reach more than 45-48-50 FPS. According to the official reaction of Nvidia, everything is fine. The company has reduced the limits for the “Priority” tariff, which it loosely calls “Optimal Playable Settings” (OPS) and which are individual for many games:

game OPS (FPS limit) game addition date
Dauntless 55 FPS members 2020
Immortals Fenyx Rising 48 FPS November 2020
Cyberpunk 2077 45 FPS December 2020
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey 45 FPS December 2020
Jurassic World Evolution 50 FPS February 2021
Dyson Sphere Program 50 FPS February 2021
Valheim 50 FPS February 2021
Path of Exile 50 FPS March 2021
Outriders 55 FPS March 2021
Kenshi 50 FPS May 2021
Biomutant 50 FPS May 2021
Dying Light 50 FPS June 2021

In short, it seems that Nvidia has decided to introduce a more luxurious 2x more expensive tariff, but instead of an adequate increase in server performance, these FPS are also at the expense of the performance of users using the traditional tariff. So if you want to have at least a certain 60 FPS, you have the option to choose a 2x more expensive tariff or rely on your own hardware, which will not voluntarily reduce your performance by 25% from day to day.
