“We require OEMs to update product description pages and add GPU frequency, video card power consumption, and Max-Q technologies used for each specific laptop equipped with a GeForce graphics card.”– said the representative of NVIDIA.
Notebook manufacturers are no longer required to indicate that laptops use Max-Q graphics cards, since according to an NVIDIA representative “Max-Q is no longer part of the name of the GPU itself.”… The company previously announced that Max-Q now encompasses a whole range of platform technologies and approaches aimed at creating powerful, yet thin laptops. These technologies include Whisper Mode 2, Dynamic Boost 2, and Advanced Optimus. NVIDIA obliged manufacturers to indicate the use of this or that technology from this set in the description of video cards.
Previously, if there was a Max-Q brand in the name of a video card, the buyer could accurately determine that the laptop uses a graphics accelerator with a reduced power consumption level and GPU frequencies. Since NVIDIA changed its policy, manufacturers also stopped specifying the Max-Q subclass in the name of the video card. However, if there is 28 different configurations mobile video cards GeForce RTX 30 series this fact could mislead potential buyers.

In practice, it could turn out that the mobile GeForce RTX 3070 as part of the MSI GP66 Leopard laptop in some scenarios could demonstrate a higher level of performance than the GeForce RTX 3080 as part of the MSI GS66 Stealth laptop. Simply because the first laptop uses a GPU with the maximum operating frequency and without reducing the level of power consumption, and the second laptop is equipped with an energy efficient GPU version with reduced operating frequencies and TGP levels.
