NVE warns that the grid rent will increase “significantly” next year

The grid rent will rise sharply next year due to high electricity prices and investments in the electricity grid, warns the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate.

– We expect that there will be a significant price increase for customers. And it is completely independent of the new pricing model for grid rent that comes into force on 1 January, says Tore Langset in NVE, acting director of the regulatory authority for energy, to VG.

It is NVE that decides how much the grid companies may charge for supplying electricity to customers.

The most important reason for the increase is that power prices are expected to be much higher next year than what was expected at the beginning of this year, Langset explains.

– The second reason is that interest rates and inflation are higher than expected this year compared to the same time last year, in addition to the fact that a good deal has been made in the electricity grid, he says.
