NVDA CEO Jensen Huang Predicts Technological Innovations to Significantly Reduce AI Costs

Zhitong Finance APP has learned that Nvidia (NVDA.US) CEO Jensen Huang predicts that advances in computing technology in the next few years will make the development cost of artificial intelligence much lower than the $7 trillion Sam Altman is said to be raising.

“You can’t just assume more computers are going to be bought,” Huang told the World Government Summit in Dubai on Monday. “You also have to take into account that computers are going to get faster, so the total number you need is not that high.”

The 60-year-old, whose company makes one of the most sought-after artificial intelligence accelerators, is confident the chip industry will drive down the cost of artificial intelligence because the parts are being “made faster and faster.”

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is seeking to raise $7 trillion from Middle Eastern investors, including the United Arab Emirates, for a semiconductor initiative, Jensen Huang said in a Wall Street Journal report. The plan is to power artificial intelligence projects that compete with Nvidia.

It is understood that due to Nvidia’s undisputed leadership in the field of artificial intelligence training chips, its market value has swelled to more than 1.7 trillion US dollars, and Huang Renxun’s personal wealth has also increased several times.

In response, Altman and other AI developers are looking to diversify their hardware options, including exploring their own chip manufacturing operations.

Among them, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSM.US) and Samsung Electronics, the world’s leading contract chip manufacturers, have committed more than US$30 billion in capital expenditures annually to stay ahead of potential competitors.

Additionally, for Ultraman to have any chance of chipping away at their lead, he’ll need to invest heavily in research, development, facilities, and expert talent, but Huang believes that better, more economical chips will make it all happen become unnecessary.

Still, Nvidia’s CEO doesn’t see the growth in AI spending ending anytime soon. In his speech, Huang estimated that the cost of data centers built to support artificial intelligence will double globally over the next five years.

He said: “We are at the beginning of this new era. About one trillion US dollars of data centers have been built around the world. In the next four or five years, we will have US$2 trillion worth of data centers that will Support global software operations.”
