REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Dr Jovita Amelia, a nutrition specialist at Pelni Hospital, reminded the public about the importance of eating regularly to maintain immune body, including during the transition season. The transition period is predicted to take place from March to April 2024.
“(Don’t) Eat irregularly and skip eating either because of busyness or diet reasons. (Don’t either) Eat processed ingredients and fast food every day,” he said in Jakarta, Monday (26/2/2024).
Jovita said eating regularly is part of a good diet to maintain a person’s immune system.
A good diet also includes meeting the body’s basic needs, namely having sufficient energy or calories, adequate carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins and minerals. This is what can be obtained from eating a healthy and balanced diet.
“So, food must be varied, enough carbohydrates from rice or other staple foods, protein from animal and vegetable side dishes. Consume vegetables at every meal, 200-300 grams of fruit per day and enough fluids,” he said.
On the other hand, he does not recommend that people drink flavored drinks or sweet drinks instead. “Enough water according to your body’s needs,” he said.
Jovita said, apart from a good diet, adequate rest and exercise are also recommended to maintain the body’s endurance.
Then, regarding illnesses or complaints that are usually encountered during transition, he mentioned respiratory problems such as coughs and colds.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts the potential for extreme weather during the season transition period from March to April 2024.
BMKG urges the public to anticipate and increase awareness of conditions such as heavy rain in a short duration which can be accompanied by lightning, strong winds, tornadoes and hail phenomena.
According to BMKG, one of the characteristics of the transition of seasons is the rain pattern which usually occurs in the afternoon until late evening, preceded by warm and hot air in the morning until midday.
