“Harribeuh”, “Nutellhash” or even “Ohaschish”. Since Tuesday, 18 people have come forward to say they were involved in a network of drug traffickers who provided bundles of to his customers hemp with creative names and designs. The playful side of the pooches was not very tasty at the Créteil (Val-de-Marne) court that sentenced 17 of them on Friday.
The defendant, nicknamed “Kirikou” or “Remontada Max94” and presented as a traffic director, was sentenced to 10 years in prison and a fine of 50,000 euros, according to the prosecutors’ requests. He was in pre-trial detention after being arrested during a major raid in 2022. But he continued to run the Meaux prison network where he is incarcerated. One of his lieutenants got eight years, another four years, and two of them were suspended.
An illegal marketing agency
This file was divided into two parts: on the one hand a contract point called “Caliterter”, which was well known to the Val-de-Marne search services and is located in Place du Moutier in Villejuif , south of Paris. Dozens of their members have already been convicted at two trials that took place in Crete in June 2022 and July 2023.
On the other hand, “Pochette Surprise”, an illegal marketing group, used “Caliterter”, from August 2022 to May 2023, to order the bags, are logos and slogans of major brands copied there using a graphic designer and printer, then redistribute the paws. The graphic designer and the printer were both given a six-month suspended sentence for forgery and a fine of 2,000 euros.
“Ingenuity” of the defendants
About fifteen companies filed a civil lawsuit, complaining primarily of damage to their reputation and infringement of intellectual property. The turnover of this work was estimated at 860,000 euros, according to figures announced by the prosecutor Adèle Ephraïm. The lawyers for the agri-food giants moved between amusement and anger during their requests on Wednesday, stressing in particular the “ingenuity” of the defendants.
For me Sevim Kasay, a lawyer for three defendants, the prosecutors and the civil parties have exaggerated the role of her clients. “We divided the file and to make it more attractive, we included the logos, we had to give it something more, to attract the media,” she said in her application on Friday.
The public prosecutor recalled during his requests on Thursday that “the drug trade is not a game” but that it represents a “fertile place for crime and its dangers”, especially against the young public.
