The most recent municipal council meeting of the market town of Nussdorf was all about the awarding of a contract for the implementation of a major project.
An architectural competition took place regarding the redesign of the castle cellar and the adjoining castle garden. Eight projects were submitted, which were evaluated by a ten-strong jury consisting of other architects, a lawyer and several municipal officers. Ultimately, the company “Wehdorn Architekten Civil Engineers GmbH” from Vienna emerged as the winner. Costs for the partial general planning services: 390,000 euros.
A separate account with an endowment of 468,000 euros was set up for the major project “Redesign of the castle cellar and castle garden”. “The decision in the municipal council officially marks the start of project implementation. If all goes well, the submission plan will be available in a few months. The tender can then be carried out and the individual trades can be awarded,” said Mayor Heinz Konrath (SPÖ).
The local boss continues: “The construction work can start in March 2024 at the earliest. According to an initial estimate, the project could be largely completed in around 14 months. The total costs amount to around 2.5 million euros – according to an initial cost estimate.”
After the application was submitted, there was an intensive discussion in which almost all the local councilors present took part. Some mandaters expressed reservations as they had not been on the jury and had not yet seen the project. They could only agree after a previous project presentation. Finally, the winning project was presented in detail by Mayor Heinz Konrath. He also answered a variety of questions. After an hour of deliberation, the decision was unanimous.
“With the unanimous decision of the municipal council to commission the renowned architect Manfred Wehdorn, we have achieved a milestone for our castle garden and castle cellar project. Now it’s time to fine-tune to create a unique meeting place for culture, customs and traditions for our community,” emphasized the managing councilor Reinhard Loth (ÖVP) on the important step in implementing the project.
On Friday, June 23, in the afternoon in the gym of the primary school in Nussdorf, the project will be presented in detail to the public. The architectural office Wehdorn from Vienna will also be on site with employees. Before that, there should be a meeting with potential organizers who have already been responsible for events in the palace garden in the past. Additional ideas are to be discussed, which could then be taken into account in the detailed planning.
