This weekend, 22 students from the Karel de Grote Hogeschool will administer a flu vaccine to 4,000 high-risk patients in a ‘vaccination street’. By vaccinating a large group, they help ease the pressure on GPs. The patients could register in advance through the Fruithof GP practice in Berchem.
Saturday and Sunday, 4,000 high-risk patients, such as the elderly and chronically ill, will come by appointment in the vaccination street outside the doctor’s offices. The students man about ten ‘injection stations’ there. KdG also sensitizes its own nursing students to get vaccinated against influenza. ‘As a healthcare provider you not only run the risk of catching the flu yourself, but also of infecting others – patients, colleagues, environment -‘, says Stef Janssens, head of education. ‘That’s why we call on all our nursing and midwifery students to be sure to get vaccinated.
