Birgit Kröber and her team from “Mobilen Haus-Krankenpflege Kröber” GmbH have already received many awards. But not yet like this. This time the managing director literally had to play along. In front of the camera in the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theater in Zittau.
The scene was rehearsed several times on Monday. Then the award was in the box. The film just had to be edited. The city of Zittau honors Birgit Kröber and her “Mobile Home Nursing” as company of the year. But how do you do that in times of corona? It records the award and broadcasts it online. On Wednesday evening it was possible to see in the worldwide network how Birgit Kröber received the certificate from Zittau’s mayor Thomas Zenker (Zkm) and business promoter Gloria Heymann.

For the first time, the city has honored a care facility as company of the year. This has several reasons and nothing to do with Corona. And yet, especially this year, it is an honor for an industry that is growing beyond itself like no other. “We are of course pleased. Even if such an award is completely different and somehow emotionless without a handshake or a festive setting,” says Birgit Kröber.

The last eight weeks have been very unusual and some of your employees have exceeded their limits. “Sometimes we didn’t know whether everyone could be taken care of,” she says. The day care had to be closed for two weeks. From time to time employees have been in quarantine. “We were one of the few who accepted corona-positive testers from the hospital,” she says. For this purpose, extra conditions and separate areas had to be created.
Corona showed the managing director: “My employees are crisis-proof and really resilient. With them you can create such construction sites.” Your thanks go not only to the employees and relatives, but also to the pharmacies, medical supply stores and others who have supported them unbureaucratically.
The Kröber care service has received several awards for the good working atmosphere. This is not just any price for the boss. A good working atmosphere is part of their corporate philosophy. Birgit Kröber wants her employees to have a say and contribute their ideas and talents. She and her management team at the Zittau and Hainewalde locations received a trophy for evaluating an anonymous employee survey in 2017. Together with 190 clinics, care and social facilities as well as outpatient providers, she had herself checked nationwide at the time.
The Great Place to Work research and consulting institute named her “Best Health & Social Employer 2017” – with a second place. The seal of quality stands for special achievements in shaping the workplace culture, which is characterized by a high degree of trust, fairness, appreciation and team spirit in cooperation. “If the employees are doing well, they can also do a good job. Nurses and carers benefit from this,” says Birgit Kröber.
Two years before that, her company landed in second place nationwide in the 2015 Health Prize of the Professional Association for Health Services and Welfare (BGW).
Two houses that shape the cityscape come to life
In the meantime, the care service has 89 employees who care for an average of 300 people in need of care a month, from foot care and day care to outpatient and semi-inpatient care. The company now offers age-appropriate living in three properties.
And as Zittau’s economic promoter now highlighted in her laudation when she was named Company of the Year 2020, that was also a reason to honor the “Mobile Home Nursing Kröber”. “Two of the properties are listed, townscape-defining houses on the Green Ring in our city, which the company has renovated and brought to life in an appealing way,” she said.
“Birgit Kröber, who is the managing director behind the company, is committed, active in regional and professional networks, visionary and innovative”, said Gloria Heymann and congratulated her as an entrepreneur and her team on Zittau Company of the Year 2020.
In 1998 Birgit Kröber started with an employee in the former polyclinic in Zittau. In 2003, the office in Hainewalde was added with an outpatient care service. With the purchase of the building at Theaterring 6 in Zittau, the new company Mobile Home Nursing began to grow properly in 2006.
Today the GmbH has a supervised living group with 24-hour care at Theaterring 6 in Zittau. Twelve tenants live here in single rooms on three floors. In 2019 the new building of the “Haus Geborgenheit” in Hainewalde was ready to move into. In 14 one- and two-room apartments, equipped for disabled people, there is also assisted living with 24-hour care.
And in 2019 she was able to open assisted living with day care in the house “Zum Schleifermännchen” at Karl-Liebknecht-Ring 24 after the renovation of the former “SED district management” in Zittau.
