Nurses refuse to work at Maisonneuve-Rosemont hospital

Evening emergency nurses at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital demonstrated their refusal to work by holding a sit-inin front of the establishment, Monday evening.

However, the emergency room of the hospital remains open, assures the CIUSSS de l’Est-de-l’Île-de-Montréal.

It is mainly because of the contingency plan that was put in place for the evening by the managers that the nurses refuse to work.

A hundred nurses from this hospital had also sent an ultimatum to their employer last Friday, complaining among other things about the compulsory overtime (TSO) imposed on them.

“The management party, following our disclosures of TSO which was unacceptable, offered us a contingency plan which puts us in overload and leaves the patients in danger so we refuse, affirms the nurse in the emergency Annie Fournier. We don’t want to have the dead on our conscience.”

The nurses are still threatening to resign en masse on Wednesday if no action is taken by their managers.
