In several cities in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, nurses took to the streets today. They called for better funding, especially for outpatient care.
The “Nursing in Need” network brought many nurses to the streets in at least nine cities in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to protest today. At “5 past 12” the traffic was therefore blocked in some places. In Stralsund, the demonstrators stood at the Tribseer Damm/Frankenwall crossing, in Greifswald the Europa crossing had to be closed for about half an hour. There were also protests in Schwerin and Rostock. Around 80 demonstrators formed a human chain in the Hanseatic city.
Labor costs are a problem for small care services
Above all, the participants at the rallies called for better refinancing of their work. Small companies in outpatient care would have major problems with the payment of wages similar to collective agreements, it said. The federal government and health insurance companies did not work well together on this problem. Although the salaries of the employees have increased, this has led to more expensive care – which is paid for by the patients and the health insurers. They demanded more money from the federal government and greater efforts from the state to combat the shortage of skilled workers.
Cost pressure from care products
The demonstrators also pointed out that care is also becoming more expensive due to rising prices that patients have to pay for care products and aids. The health insurance companies should be responsible for this, otherwise fewer and fewer people would be able to afford care in old age. As the website of the “Nursing in Need” network shows, more than 70 nursing services and facilities in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have declared their solidarity with the demands.
