Nurses Day 2023 The theme of this year’s International Nurses Day is – Our Nurses. It is our future. Florence Nightingale’s birthday, May 12, is celebrated as Nurses’ Day all over the world. On this day they are called angels. Otherwise, ‘just a nurse’. Many people think that this is an easy service that anyone can do. If you take a look at those who spend two days in a hospital, you can understand what they are going through and how much respect they really deserve.

A few years ago. A period of clinical practice as a physiotherapist. This is how the managing director, who accidentally entered the floor, shouted to a nursing staff who was leaning against the wall and entering files without getting tired due to fever and workload!

“Where are you all roaming around at night to sleep and gain weight during the day!!?”

I also remember teasing a nurse who stopped to get into the lift with the injection kit and other things by asking her if she would hurt her waist if she went up the stairs. These are what they have seen directly.. They are experiencing more than this.

In the past, a wife who was a nurse was a trump card to go abroad in the marriage market. The easiest way for a family to recover was to leave their daughter to teach nursing. Therefore, those girls first learned to tolerate and forgive all the torture. It is fair to say that they often trembled in the helplessness of having a family dependent on them. This practice has been passed down from generation to generation.

In spite of all this, have you ever wondered why these people in white coats are able to run to any patient who calls with a smile, nurse tirelessly, and shower love as if they were at home?

It is because they have taken an oath and confirmed in their hearts the virtue of eager service rather than the small salary they get. (Just like anywhere, there are some people here who show bad faces… don’t forget)

Now the situation has changed.. Both male and female are opting for nursing course. Nursing is one of the top three highest paying jobs abroad. There are many higher education options in nursing today. Out of which branches such as anesthesia, dental nursing etc. are in the most demand now.

Nurses’ unions have become stronger and have a stronger voice. The bright and brilliant who get admission through the entrance itself get a place in this professional course. They come out after studying all the medical subjects properly. Nurses do not work under doctors. Both the doctor and the nurse have specific duties and responsibilities in patient care. They are team members who need to work together without interfering with each other’s work.

A nurse spends more time with a patient than a doctor. Many lives have been saved because they are by their side, listening to the call of “Sister” day and night, listening to the monitor. If nurses decide not to put their self-respect on the line, our health care system will grind to a halt. Because instead of them, they are the only ones!

The time of covid is a lesson for us..the field of nursing is intertwined with our healthy and good future. It’s not just their union that needs to speak up for them..it’s each and every one of us..it’s our responsibility to ensure that this sector survives and that they get fair and decent wages and the respect they deserve. More investments are needed in this sector.

I know a woman who witnessed the sudden death of a 20-year-old patient whom she cared for for a month. The death haunted her for a year. The nursing staff was sweating with shaking hands and unable to even insert a cannula.

How many hospitals provide nurses with a counseling setting? In the present situation, it can be said with certainty that these angels are with us at the time of our birth and at the time of our death. We should all do our part in keeping them and their minds and bodies healthy.

Don’t be an angel, just remember that they are our fellow human beings who sacrifice their lives for us and cover them with love…not only on this Nurse’s Day, but for all time, let’s keep them together by giving love to nurses all over the world!
