The complaint comes from the Nursing Up union which speaks of “sadly already seen scenes” when a patient is said to have “cowardly attacked two defenseless nurses. The first is hit in the eye, the second in an attempt to defend the first, is pushed with a such brutality that he falls to the ground, hits his head and loses consciousness.” A few meters from the entrance to the emergency room there is a police station inaugurated a year ago. But, underlines the union, this is manned “only from 8am to 2pm with healthcare professionals literally abandoned to themselves in the afternoon hours, while at night they are entrusted to a security guard who certainly does not have the same power of action as a policeman” . “It appears to us, and we are ready to be disavowed otherwise, that to date there is not a single Italian hospital where agents are present 24 hours a day and especially at night – says Antonio De Palma, national president of Nursing Up -. At this point we ask an immediate intervention by the Interior Ministry and if necessary, in the hospitals of the capital cities, we demand the presence of the army immediately.
