Berlin – In view of the rapidly increasing number of infections in Berlin and all of Germany, the Charité appealed to the population in a Twitter video: “Get vaccinated, because vaccination protects”. “The Charité Berlin is already in the middle of the fourth wave of pandemics,” the clinic said on Twitter.
In the video, hospital employees describe their experiences during the corona pandemic. A nurse describes having never seen so much suffering and tragic individual fates as during the corona pandemic. “The winter of 2020/21 was really tough. You can still feel the exhaustion, ”says a doctor.
“We always saved ourselves with the thought that it would be over soon,” explains a nurse in the intensive care unit. Hope came with the vaccination. But not all of them get vaccinated, although this is important. New corona patients would come every day. The fear that the capacity limits would be reached is there. “The freedom of one ends where the freedom of the next begins,” says another doctor.
In the Federal Republic of Germany, 67.4 percent are currently fully vaccinated against Corona. 70 percent received at least one dose. The number of infections and seven-day incidences have been rising rapidly for weeks. In Berlin it is now 279.2 – the highest value since the beginning of the pandemic. According to the register of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine, 2828 corona patients are currently being cared for in intensive care across Germany.
It was only on Tuesday that the Charité announced that due to the increasing number of corona patients to be treated, all planned operations will be canceled. This step is necessary in order to increasingly deploy employees on corona wards again, the clinic said.
