Freiburg (dpa) – A nurse has been sentenced to life in prison because he murdered an 89-year-old woman out of greed. The Freiburg regional court ruled on Thursday that the 26-year-old accepted the death of the elderly woman with approval. The man was also convicted of robbery resulting in death.
With the verdict for murder, the court followed the prosecutor’s request. The 26-year-old was employed as a carer for a couple in the town of Herbolzheim north of Freiburg in October last year and lived in the house, as the prosecution reported. The man, who was heavily drunk at the time of the crime last year, hit the woman several times in the face and locked her in the boiler room.
The 89-year-old had previously noticed that the nurse, who came from Poland, wanted to steal jewelry. She was still able to alert the police. The seriously injured victim died in a clinic a few days after the attack.
