A nurse at a psychiatric hospital has been sentenced to 180 hours of unpaid work and 18 months of supervision after having sex with a patient, the Greenock Telegraph has reported.
Jill McLaren, 37, met the patient at a psychiatric clinic in the Scottish city of Glasgow in July 2018. The nurse learned that they both liked sports. Thanks to their common interest, she quickly became close to him and began to flirt. In order to see the man more often, McLaren began working on the ward where he was being treated.
After some time, the nurse began to kiss the victim secretly from her colleagues and other patients. One day, during a night shift, she woke the man up and had sex with him in his room. She later took the mentally ill man to her home and they had sex again.
Their relationship lasted until August 2019, when a quarrel arose between them. After the conflict, McLaren stopped communicating with the man.
“She told him it was wrong and he couldn’t go on like this. But he threatened her that if she ended the relationship, he would tell other staff at the clinic about them,” the nurse’s lawyer told the court.
Soon the clinic staff finds out about their relationship. The nurse is arrested and admits to having sex with the patient. Jill is not allowed to leave her home for five months from nine in the evening to six in the morning on any day of the week except Saturday. McLaren was placed on the sex offenders’ register for 18 months.
